On most weekends you can find me sitting on a bench at either Washington Square Park or Madison Square Park. I go to the former to watch people and dogs and to the latter to pet other people's dogs. During the Saturday before Halloween and one of the last warm days of the year, all of the usual people came out to Washington Square Park.
Pigeon Man was in his same spot with pigeons perched on top of his shoulders and head, eating off of his hands, which I imagine to be rotting away from a fungal disease he contracted from the birds. His sidekick, the long-haired man who usually wears a tank top, was dressed in a Japanese-looking robe and wore a rat mask.
The men who usually walk back and forth around the park were present...apparently they sell drugs.
The park never has a shortage of "performers." An Asian girl, probably an NYU student, was tap dancing for money but was totally half assing it. She didn't have any music to tap to and had no rhythm. I think she lost a bet with her friends, or she didn't get an A on a test and her parents punished her.
While I was feeling bad for the tap dancer, these two guys were setting up to perform a hip hop/electric guitar medley. They were pretty good.
This woman was the best performer of the day. She transported the crowd back to a 1940s smokey French night club as she sang Edith Piaf songs. We stuck around until she finished her last song and to see how she was going to fit the table in her suitcase.
Then there was the guy who made sand art on the ground. While I think he's very talented, I just get annoyed of how he takes up all the space and expects people to walk around his art.
A group of teenagers in costumes gathered around on the grass. I think they were re-enacting a scene from a movie or something.
