Rigoletto (Las Vegas Style) and Nemo

I didn't understand why everyone on Facebook was writing about the clown fish from the Disney movie on Friday. Then I found out the snow storm was called Nemo. I didn't think the snowfall was exciting enough to deserve a name. Like five years from now, we're not going to sit around and say, "Remember Nemo? Yeah, I was sitting in my apartment watching tv."

On Friday night, I went to see Rigoletto at The Met. I assumed most old people weren't going to leave their apartments to trek through the snow to see the show, so I dressed in jeans, a t-shirt and snow boots and sat in the first row. I was wrong. Women came in high heels, dresses and fur coats.

This production of Rigoletto was set in 1960's Las Vegas, echoing the Rat Pack days. I thought opera music and the modern-day setting would clash but the story line involving lust, sex and violence meshed perfectly with Sin City. The show was stellar (although I fell asleep a bit during the second act). The highlight of the night was the performance of "La Donna e Mobile." It's a classic song that I thought had to do with making pizza or pasta but it's really about women being fickle.

When we walked out of The Met at 11pm, I felt like I was walking through a snow globe that someone just shook up. The snow was quite pretty. I was looking forward to seeing the snowscaped city the next morning.
