I needed a break from the Chelsea and Meat Packing club scene, so last night I went to Rockwood Music Hall, a small music venue in my neighborhood, to listen to live music. The intimate brick room was dimly lit with soft lighting and candlelight, and had several tables close to the stage and stools lining the bar and side windows.
I was amazed by the talent of the performers. Leah Siegel, who should be famous, was my favorite of the night, while Xylopholks were the most entertaining with their animal costumes and cartoon-sounding songs.
I enjoyed the music but what made my time even more enjoyable was the person I was with. On Saturday night, after dancing away at Kiss and Fly, my friends and I were sitting on some steps, stuffing our faces with chicken and rice. Some foreign tourists approached us to ask for suggestions on bars. While my drunk friends were yelling at them to go to the Lower East Side and to go away, I was trying to give more specific directions and offered to email one guy suggestions. Of course the guy was cute...So I ended up meeting him at Rockwood.
I rarely find this type of guy with the whole package: cute, smart, cultured, sweet, good sense of humor, and he likes to cook, which is a plus. His knowledge of and appreciation for art, history, and culture was so genuine and damn attractive. Too bad he lives in Belgium. Ever since I broke up with my ex over three years ago and swore I'd never do long distance relationships, I always find myself meeting interesting guys who live far away. I'm cursed.

Only one thing to do. Move to Belgium. They have excellent beer over there. That, in and of itself, should be enough.
belgium is cool- it is the home of french fries (i know, weird). they do eat weird stuff over there though- i can have my roommate educate you on the finer points of her home. she says the weather is very "seattle-like" so if you like that- go for it. or, make him move here- duh!!!
