Provins is a medieval town dating back to the 11th century under the rule of the Earls of Champagne. The town was famous for its trade fairs during the 12th and 13th centuries.
The houses reminded me of Snow White's house.
There's not much to see there. I spent more time on the train going to and from the town than I did walking around it. I was a bit disappointed that the residents don't walk around in Medieval clothes and ride on horses.
Some medieval structures have been restored. This is the Vault of the Holy Spirit from the 12th century. It served as a hospital to accommodate pilgrims, the poor, the elderly and children.
The fortified wall protected the residents and tradespeople.
View from the top of the curtain wall.
The Jouy Gate opens onto the road leading to the Cistercian abbey of Jouy. Merchants took this road to the fairs back in the day.
The road from the gate leads to an open field.
The Tithe barn was rented out to merchants visiting the regional fairs.
Caesar's Tower served as a watchtower and later as a prison.
I've been practicing my quiet ninja steps and got a better shot of a butterfly.
This is the train I took to and from the town. It's one of the more nicer suburban trains. I always fall asleep during train rides that are longer than an hour and startle myself awake when my head falls over.
