I spent the rest of the rainy day hanging out with my three cousins. Two of them, ages 19 and 17, live away for college so I only get to see them on the weekends. The youngest is 13 and has been practicing karate for 6 years. I went to watch him in a karate demonstration at the town's annual sporting fair. The little guy is quite impressive.

Remembering 9/11
The news channels were covering 9/11 all day. I didn't need to understand French to know what the reporters were saying. The images spoke for themselves. I asked my 17-year-old cousin on her and other French people's view of 9/11 and she said that everyone thought it was a tragedy. Then I asked her what most people thought of the US and she said that the French don't like Americans, but then clarified that they don't like American policies. I didn't watch tv for very long because the images made me too sad. And what also made me sad was that 10 years later, there's still no end in sight on the war in Afghanistan, Iraq is still unstable, Pakistan has become a breeding ground for terrorists, and countless number of innocent people continued to be killed as a result of this conflict.
