Day 2 in Paris: Lourve, NY Friends and Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise

Everyone morning my aunt buys fresh baguette from the neighborhood boulangerie and insists that I make myself a ham and pate sandwich for breakfast. Today she bought a chocolate croissant and regular croissant for me for breakfast. At the rate I'm going, I'm going to gain 10 pounds from all these carbs.

As usual, I took the train into the city but today I transfered to a different line to get to the Lourve. This train was newer than the double decker train I take from the house, with lights indicating each train stop. I found it interesting that unlike NYC trains, the cabins aren't separated by doors so you can see straight down the train.

I already went into the Lourve during my previous trip so I didn't go in today.

Instead I marveled at the detailed sculptures and carvings on the building, which is a piece of art in itself.

Underneath an arch.

Then I met up with a few NYC friends, one of which is renting an apartment in the city for this month. This is the entrance to the Jardin des Tulieries, the largest (and my favorite) park in Paris. If you look straight down the park from the pyramid of the Lourve, the Obelisk and Arc de Triomphe are perfectly aligned in a straight line. I'll have to come back to take pictures since today was rainy.

A view of the Seine.

A typical facade of a Paris apartment building.

Every corner has a cafe with seats facing the street, perfect for people watching.

We all had French onion soup for lunch. It was too salty though.

After we went to the Cimetire du Pere Lachaise, the largest cemetary in the city with graves that date back more than 200 years ago.

Many famous French and non-French people are buried there, but I was only familiar with Chopin and Jim Morrison.

On another note, I miss my boyfriend!
