Vienna, Austria

For those following my blog--did you miss me?! I've been in India the past two weeks and haven't had a chance to update my blog. I have a couple of free days in New Delhi so I'll start posting pictures.

Wednesday, October 12 - Friday, October 14

I left Prague in the early morning by bus and spent the first day in Vienna in the rain. By mid-day my socks were soaked and by the end of the day, my toes were pruney. The buildings looked very similar to the ones in Prague. The men don't sound like Ahhnold Schwarzenegger at all. So disappointing.

The people sharing the hostel room with me were one of the most interesting groups I've come across during this trip. There's the 23-year-old free-spirited Chilean who has been traveling for two years and plays guitar on the street and bars to make money, the 24-year-old Munich guy who can recount every European country's history and Germany's military involvement with that country, the 24-year-old Drew Barrymore look-alike Aussie freelance journalist who is in debt from traveling for the past four months, and a 25-year-old Polish guy who works as a street performer in different cities.

Rathaus, the city hall.

Parliament

The steps at the Albertina Museum.

Mozart's house. I played the piano as a child so I was excited to see one of my favorite classical composer's house.

Hundertwasserhaus, colorful apartment buildings that contrast with the city's baroque architecture.

Shonbrunn Palace

View of Glorietta from the palace's garden.

A sachertorte from Sacher Hotel, the original creator of this type of chocolate cake. It was not a party in my mouth.

St. Stephen's Cathedral, the seat of the Archbishop of Vienna. The Polish guy in the hostel works next to this church. He wears a costume and makes noises at people and makes an average of 30 Euros per hour! I wonder how much I can make...it will be my back-up plan if I can't find a job when I get back.

I think this is a museum.

At night I went with a few people from the hostel to Prater, a small amusement park, to look for the Chilean guy who was planning to play guitar there. We couldn't find him so we headed back to the hostel. While we were on the subway, an undercover police caught the Polish guy for not paying for the subway ticket. The Polish guy didn't have any money or ID on him so the police let him go.
