Battery Park

This statue is supposed to represent the different ethnic groups, entitled The Immigrants. But seriously, could the creator of the statue have made them appear any more despondent? One guy is on his knee praying, the other one is so dejected that he has to hide his face from the world and rely on the couple in front of him to lead the way, and another man is on the ground with his hand out as if he was asking for money...or waiting for a tourist to sit her butt on his hand.

My friend's younger sister and friend were visiting from California so we decided to take the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. (It's a free alternative to the Ellis Island Ferry.)

We walked on the deck to board the ferry. My friend felt like she was being deported. On a more serious note, yesterday a funeral was held for the second firefighter who died after being trapped in a burning building, which happened to be next to the World Trade Center. Everywhere we went, including the Staten Island Ferry, we saw firefighters from all over the city and the U.S. who paid their respects to the fallen.

View of the southern tip of Manhattan from the ferry.

The Statue of Liberty isn't as big or green as I thought it would be, but then again, we were far away from it.

The famous bronze bull on Wall Street. I witnessed the bull being violated many a time. Unfortunately, I was one of the perpetrators.

It's really hard to get your picture taken in front of the bull. You have to be fast and aggressive and not mind other strangers sharing the frame with you.
