When I was stuck in traffic on the 91 in OC, I would think to myself, "I can't wait to not have to be in traffic in NY and just take the metro everywhere." Wrrrrrong! The metro does have traffic--and it doesn't smell good! I took the train home during the rush hour commute and it was quite awkward. I'm not used to having people up on my face but I guess this is something I'll have to become accustomed to. There were two ladies sitting an inch in front of me while I was standing facing them with my hand gripping the bar above me, trying not to touch their knees when the train shook us around. To the right of me was a man with his arm up as well. It was one of those Sure-deodorant-commercial moments and I was trying to stealthily check if I was the odor offender. Luckily, I wasn't :) Eventually more people came in and I was now facing two women who were standing face to face with me. I didn't know where to look because I didn't want to make it seem like I was staring at them when I was really looking at the spot next to their ear. So the whole time I just avoided eye contact. That's just too intimate for me.
On a side note, the guys living in my neighborhood always say "Ni how" to me, assuming that I'm Chinese. What's up with that?
